July 29 Action Alert: Press Outreach

Three important health writers to contact today to ask that they write about herpes. You can reach out through all available channels for maximum impact.

Ed Yong
Formerly The Atlantic

Would advise writing to Ed on twitter asking for a story about herpes impact on brain health and potential association with Alzheimer’s, neuro complications, etc.

Ben Ryan

Sample email to Ben: Hi Ben, I know you cover public health and sexual health issues. Why is genital herpes not being considered in HIV prevention efforts? 30% of new HIV cases are directly attributable to genital herpes – more than any STI. Herpes is not harmless and has potential for subclinical impacts that are not well known or understood. We need a syndemic approach to combat both epidemics.

Are you aware there are nearly 50,000 cases of genital herpes a month in the US? Compared to less than 1,000 for mpox at its peak. And HSV is comparable if not more medically serious. Please consider a story.
