Dr. David Leib Joins Herpes Cure Advocacy Medical Advisory Board

Herpes Cure Advocacy is pleased to welcome Dr. David Leib to our Medical Advisory Board.

Dr. Leib is the Chair and Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine.

David grew up in London, England, and attended Birmingham University for a BSc in microbiology, and Liverpool University for his PhD in virology working on non-human primate herpesviruses.  He then spent 3 years in Priscilla Schaffer’s lab at Harvard from 1987-1990 working on herpes simplex virus (HSV) which has been the focus of his research since then.  He held a faculty position at Washington University in St. Louis from 1990-2009, before moving to the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth where he is currently Professor and Chair of Microbiology and Immunology. Since its inception in 1990, the Leib Lab has made numerous contributions to our understanding of HSV latency and pathogenesis and is currently focused on neonatal infections and possible connections to cognitive decline and neurodegenerative disorders. The lab is also currently testing novel antibody-based therapeutics to prevent HSV infection and recurrence.
