OVERVIEW
In November of 2022, the CDC and NIAID sponsored a joint workshop on Genital Herpes. Participants included members of the herpes research community, industry representatives, public health advocates, government agency staff, scientists, patient advocates and individuals suffering from genital herpes. Topics covered a wide range of issues related to Genital Herpes; including treatment, Neonatal Herpes, diagnostics, and prevention. Three advocacy groups were in attendance, including Herpes Cure Advocacy, to discuss their role in supporting patients suffering from herpes infections. This paper, published April 24, 2024 summarizes eight sessions intended to identify opportunities in herpes research as well as to foster the development of strategies to diagnose, treat, cure, and prevent genital herpes.
