Dr. Simon Delagrave: The HSV Vaccine Pipeline Needs New Ideas – a More Technical Discussion of HSV Vaccinology

Dr. Simon Delagrave Simon is a life sciences R&D executive, consultant, and board member whose 28 years of professional experience span infectious diseases and gene therapy, deploying various technologies such as viral vectors, vaccines, antibodies, structural biology, protein design, and protein engineering.
Dr. Delagrave holds a BSc in biochemistry from McGill University and a Ph.D. from MIT in biological chemistry. Dr. Delagrave was head of virology research and interim head of research at Sanofi Pasteur North America for nearly 13 years. He was Project Leader for a vaccine against genital herpes which completed phase I clinical testing in collaboration with the NIH. He also served as Senior Vice President for Platform and Biology at Ring Therapeutics, a Flagship Pioneering company, and his consulting practice includes a major venture creation firm, a highly respected research hospital network’s gene and cell therapy institute, and seed-stage biotechs.
His work has led to 16 issued U.S. patents and several pending applications, as well as over 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles describing the first useful engineered variant of the green fluorescent protein (GFP), the development of the licensed vaccine IMOJEV® against Japanese encephalitis, novel findings regarding respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza, Zika, novel viral vector technologies, and, most recently, the discovery of the first atomic structure of a human anellovirus.
